I live, work, and frolic in the unbelievably infertile pine forests of Southeast Louisiana on 17 acres. I grow organic blueberries and pastured chickens for market, and spend most of the rest of my time growing (and eating!) all manner of edible plants.
Do you Grow Groceries full time?
Depends. If full-time means 40 hours a week, then probably yes. But I do work elsewhere(s) to pay the bills, few as they are. The commercial aspects of the farm (blueberries, free-ranged chickens) take up most of my time. The garden is secondary, but it’s also the highlight that I enjoy the most.
Do you grow all of your own food?
No. Not yet. But every year I get a leeeetle bit closer. I may never get there, and if so that’s fine with me. But 100% food self sufficiency is a long term dream of mine. And probably one of my more doable dreams
How long have you been Growing Groceries?
Four-ish years? Not very long, but long enough to have had a killer good time doing it.
Are you one of these people who thinks we should all live in rugged log cabins, wear goat-skin loincloths, forage for berries and meditate for intergalactic peace?
No.
